The Beaver AL.1 was a British Army variant of the De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver, a rugged, single-engine aircraft known as a « bush plane » for its ability to operate in remote areas. It was used for utility and transport, including light utility roles in places like Aden and Borneo, and notably during « The Troubles » in Northern Ireland. The AL.1 variant featured a 450 hp Pratt & Whitney Wasp Junior engine, and the aircraft was designed to take off and land on short distances (STOL) from land, water, or snow.
