Delta Air Lines was the first operator of the venerable Douglas DC-9, placing their first DC-9-14 into service on December 8, 1965. The initial scheme on the DC-9 featured a sideways Widget on the tail which lasted a few short years before being rotated 90 degrees for the more familiar look that lasted many years.
