The Bf-109 V13 and V14 prototypes were the first Bf-109 airframes to utilize Daimler-Benz DB 600-series engines. These DB-powered prototypes made their first public appearance at the ZürichDübendorf aviation meet of 1937. Bf-109 V13 DIPKY was flown by Carl Francke who won the climb and dive competition. This aircraft later beat the world land plane speed record a few months later.
