Background

The Boeing 747-400 Ed Force One served as a tour plane for heavy metal band Iron Maiden during their 2016 « The Book of Souls » World Tour, piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson, and took the band and their crew safely to over 35 countries. The Ed Force One is not just an airplane, but a symbol of the band’s epic journeys and worldwide connection with their fans. Le Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet est un avion de transport de passagers à quatre moteurs, à large fuselage et à long rayon d’action dans la configuration américaine à ailes basses. L’entraînement est assuré par quatre moteurs Pratt and Whitney JT9D ou PW4000 ou Rolls-Royce RB211 ou General Electric CF6 ou GEnx. Le vol du prototype a eu lieu en 1969, et la production en série a commencé en 1970 et est toujours en cours. En avril 2017, 1 531 Boeing 747 avaient été produits. Les avions de ce type se caractérisent par deux ponts passagers, ce qui a considérablement augmenté le nombre de passagers – selon la version – de 366 à 568 ! Plusieurs versions de développement majeures de cet avion très réussi ont été produites au cours de la production en série.
